Floppy 2008, 17 May

Sometimes I feel old. Specially when a teacher says something about a floppy disk and the youngest in the class does not know what a floppy disk is. Huk.

Apart of being busy, nothing interesting has happened to my life lately. Exams, exams, and exams. And the embarrasement I felt when a teacher said that the English subject is not taught properly in the Spanish Maritime Academies. Okay, he is right, but please do not ask me…hahahha

I cannot lie, but of course, I am not going to make my country look bad. Pride? Do the Spanish people have a little bit of that? XD

Spaans

A veces me siento vieja.

XD

Goodbye, Bike 2008, 26 April

You have served well. But, finally, you could not stand the pressure and the day you said goodbye forever arrived. But…

Couldn’t you have waited until the end of June?!

Well, it is dead. The chain is broken and repairing it would be more expensive than the bike itself, so…I left it on the street and said goodbye to it….

Spaans

Today somebody arrived to this blog looking for download computer photos with girl.  Google is amazing. XD

Anyway…Today’s post is about the Library. Libraries are amazing. According to Terry Pratchet, they treasure Power. Because Knowledge is Power and nobody would deny that Libraries house lot of knowledge.

But Libraries can also contain some fun (sometimes). Antwerpen is the most similar thing I have seen to American University lifestyle. From university student clubs and their famous cantus (a party where the main goal is getting drunk and singing) to canteens.

Well..today I went to the Library and I found out there was a concert on the lower floor. And beers, icecreams and sweets for free =)

Since I have an exam on Friday I didn’t stay for a long time (three songs). Really a pity because the band playing, MINT, was really really good. The kind of music I like.

Then I went upstairs and continued studying. I was studying in a group-reserved room but my friend had gone for a while and I was alone. Since there was a bigger group waiting I was politely XD asked to move to another place. The funny thing is I called my friend to tell him and these people realised I was speaking Spanish…Funny enough, they were studying Spanish and had some homework, so I helped them with a writing XD.

Well…To resume…Going to the library is worthy sometimes, isn’t it?

Spaans

Chinese 2008, 6 March

Did you know that dog of flanders and chrysanthemum are the top search terms used to find this blog? That’s why I prefer wordpress rather than other blog hosting websites…

But that’s not what I wanted to say today, so let’s go into today’s topic. That’s….Chinese (language).

I am attending a course on “Port Management”. I find it quite interesting but the problem is that, as soon as the class is over, I have the feeling that learning Chinese would be a great idea.

My teacher tells wonders about Chinese ports. He always uses them as examples. Chinese ports and, of course, Antwerpen-Rotterdam port.

I love languages, and Chinese is a language I have been wanting to learn for a long time, so I really have to make and effort to concentrate in my studies and not open the Chinese book. XD

Anyway, I ask myself what’s going up with this Chinese fever we are having in the West Side of the World. No matter which conference or class you are attending, somebody will bring up the topic about Chinese economy and so on.

Everybody seems eager to learn Chinese, despite (and ignoring) the Chinese efforts to improve their citizen’s English skills…

Last year, at the Official School of Languages in my city, the only languages with all places taken were unsurprisingly English and Chinese.

I am looking forward about what is going to happen too.

再見!

Inspiring video XD

¿A dónde iremos a parar?

Me pregunto que pasará.

I have passed my exams! My marks are neither excellent nor terrible. Just average, but it is not that bad since I am taking my exams in an alien language for me. Excuses, excuses…I will do better next time.

Changing subject…My sister left already. She stayed here for one week but unfortunately she cannot prove it because we had a small technical problem with the SD card. The pictures were deleted -unintentionally- when trying to download them into the computer. Nobody knows how it happened, but the fact is that there are no photos now. X File (tu tu tutu Tutu)

I never thought finding a ship to start continue my training as an officer (i.e. cadet on board) would be soooo difficult. I have sent uncountable applications and I haven’t got any positive reply until now.

Actually…my C.V is not brilliant. I have almost no experience. However, I am applying as a student on board, not as a worker! Then, my grades are not bad and I speak Spanish, English and French. I cannot speak Japanese, Korean or Dutch but I try to learn. That also counts, doesn’t it?

I don’t know why they don’t even reply….

Anyway, tomorrow I will go personally to the offices here. I will tell them that not replying is a bad habit and shows no manners XD

Well…In fact, I will tell them I would like (really like, please -I beg you!) be a cadet under their company…

I have come back! Erhm…Actually, I arrived on Wednesday evening but I was so tired after the firefighting training that I have been postponing posting until today. Sorry!

The training was really really really funny. I mean…I didn’t laugh at all (yah..dare to do it inside a room with fire and smoke) but it was a different kind of activity and, although tiring, I really enjoyed it.

I couldn’t take any picture because I was a little bit busy trying to extinguish the fire, sorry XD.

Apart from being an interesting activity, I think it was useful to everyone to realise that is in this situation when you should rely on others and work as a team. Your own safety depends on them. Even putting on the dress is so difficult that you need somebody to take care of you and you are expected to help the others as well. Isn’t it fantastic?^^

Ou…This seems a philosophical entry. I don’t like it, so I will add up a thing: that night we stayed in Brugge (where the training was taking place, two hours by train from Antwerpen) and we played billard and we had a drink together. It was as enjoyable as the training and it was also useful to strengthen bonds between the members of the team. Maybe more useful than the training^^.

¡Ya he vuelto!

Learning process

English–>Spanish–>French

Assigning values (from 0 to 3, where 1 represents the easiest task, i.e Reading in Spanish=0)

Reading in English: 0.2

Translating English-Spanish: 0.5

Translating Spanish-French: 1.5

Assuming the total difficulty is just the sum of the difficulty of each task:

Total difficulty : 2.2 times more difficult than studying in Spanish.

Probability of success in the exam: o.ooo1%

Result: F R U S T R A T I O N!

Understand me?

Me voy a seguir estudiandooooooooo~

two weeks without posting. Oops. I feel as if I had forgotten to do my homework. But I have been really busy, and busy here implies having a week of holidays (okay, study week*), a trip to Paris and being sick. Now I must study…

(I will write a post about Paris soon, as soon as my sis sends me something^^)

 *Honestly, I did study!

Today we had the special lecture by the Japanese teacher. It was really interesting and I talk about it in detail here. Sorry guys that it’s only written in Spanish.

When it finished, the teacher asked the students from the ZFac to go to the hall and talk there. He gave us some blue and white personal cards and asked us to keep a bit as a prove we went to the lecture. Those people who have a bit have one extra point in the exam.

Actually, I don’t know if I agree with this idea…It is a good idea to reward students that went to an optional course, but…I don’t know…It seems to me it isn’t the proper way to do things.

Anyway…

I got my bit

I got my bit^^ I already got 1/20 in the exam. And I am really working hard for this subject. I have already spent more than 20 hours studying this subject in the library, and tomorrow I will stay for the whole day too. I’d like to get a 17/20 =)

Fighting!
